Programmer/Analyst III

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 2005-Present

Develop web applications in Java Server Pages (JSP) and Java Standard Tag Library (JSTL) to support clinical research and informatics. Programming, production support, mentoring, and management of departmental technical systems.

  • Provide technical expertise to project management staff on the systems and the programming problems and solutions associated with the development of application software systems.
  • Participate in the formulation of departmental programming standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Design, implement, integrate, and maintain new and existing technical systems.
  • Conduct problem diagnosis and facilitate resolution of technical questions at the departmental level as a TSR (Technical Support Representative).

Consultant

d/b/a Mobius Software Services, 1997-present

Web and UNIX programmer.

  • Perform contract programming work, such as: Generate score report graphs and summaries in paper, HTML, and PDF forms from data records for Harcourt Assessment). Develop web site, including CGI scripting to interface with internal filePro accounting systems, for Lebco Graphics. Maintain, enhance, and optimize web pages for clients of A+ Net Solutions.

Programmer/Analyst II

Qwest Communications, 1995-1999

Started with USLD Communications in 1995. December 1997, LCI International acquired USLD. June 1998, Qwest acquired LCI.

Converted USLD billing data to LCI systems. Maintained USLD 1+ call acquisition and billing systems. Provided UNIX support.

  • Converted USLD legacy systems to LCI systems. Performed last 8 months of conversion work via telecommuting.
  • Maintained and enhanced the legacy 1+ call acquisition and billing systems (C code, Databus code, and UNIX shell scripts). Attended to the daily production needs of these systems, including on-call support.
  • Headed project to split the rating and billing systems, which saved 2-5 days of processing time per billing cycle.
  • Wrote the "tops_billing" script, a Korn shell script which automated the 1+ billing jobs for the computer operators.
  • Helped develop the CDR (call detail record) load component of a new Oracle-based customer care and billing system named CIMS. Later enhanced the CDR load to be real-time for a new Operator Services system named OSP.
  • Provided general UNIX support to programmers and computer operators.
  • Published crash recovery procedures for the production UNIX server.
  • Handled configuration management of all UNIX programs and source code.
  • Designed and implemented an MIS department intranet web site on a PC, wrote client/server socket applications to interface the PC web and UNIX server, and created dynamic web pages based on database queries from the UNIX server.

Software Engineer

Southwestern Bell Messaging Services, 1994-1995

Maintained legacy customer order applications and assisted in development and testing of a new order system.

  • Wrote database maintenance programs in C for the legacy customer order applications.
  • Participated in the development and testing of a new order system named MACSS. (Spent a few months at the St. Louis office.) Activities involved implementing GUI interfaces in Design/1, developing SQL, and coding C programs and shell scripts.
  • Responsible for MACSS release management. Tracked bugs and fixes, maintained source code history and version control, and performed migrations of MACSS components to production.
  • Gave operations support to user community, including 24-hour on-call duty.
  • Assisted with HP-UX system administration tasks.

Technical Staff

Knowledge Dynamics Corporation, 1993-1994

Provided technical support.

  • Took technical support calls from both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Wrote validation test suites for company products.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

The University of Texas at San Antonio, 1992-1993

Developed tools to visualize the dynamics of pattern formation in premixed flames.

  • Maintained the Khoros image processing system on a SUN platform.
  • Performed video analysis of flame motion using Khoros. Implemented toolboxes in Khoros as algorithms emerged.
